Back to school campaign for out-of-school children’s education in Nigeria. On Monday, 07/12/2020 Helpers Social Development Foundation started back to school campaign that aims to support less privileged education in a public school in Enugu State, Nigeria. We visited the central primary school Awkuke to kick off the program. The program is expected to end September 2021 academic year. The aim of the visit was to support children’s education in the community. As part of our mission, working towards creating opportunities for children to have benefits in the realm of education through its initiatives.
We started the forgathering with a short lecture on how to prevent sexual abuse and what to do if he or she witnesses such an incident. The students were told to be dauntless and report anybody who tries to take advantage of them to a trusted adult. after the lecture, we distributed writing materials to the children.
The children were delighted as well as the teachers who are present in the school during the program.
We interviewed the headmistress Mrs Narome Nwakaego Nnamani of central school akwuke who emphasized the challenges the student are facing in the community. She complained of the children not having writing materials, textbooks, uniforms, and sandals. And also, most of the parents of these children are manual labourers who leave home early in the morning to look for means to survive even before the children wake up. These parents give birth to many children they can not take care of.
Quality education is one challenge faced by many Africans most especially Nigerians. According to Nelson Mandela, he said ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’ and in the words of Malcolm X, ‘Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow, belongs to those who prepare for it today’.
Getting quality education is one very vital thing we ought not to tamper with, for tampering with it means tampering with your future. So many people in Nigeria fall victim to not getting this quality education as a result of financial problems/hardship in the family. Getting an education is not just about reading and writing, but what matters is applying such for themselves and society at large. Being educated and empowered can make one lead their life without necessarily depending on the other, gain freedom, impact society positively, protect him/her from financial instability and also help reduce crimes in society and in the streets where we live.

Some families today can’t afford to provide basic school needs for their children due to covid-19 pandemic. Millions of Nigeria including children go to bed hungry, and for that reason, parents providing education needs for their children will not be possible.
Due to these and many others, we are implementing back to school program whose purpose is to reach out to the underprivileged that are denied quality education in various rural communities in Enugu State.
Moreover, this program will be beneficial to society and the country as it will help reduce the number of criminal activities in the streets, stop immorality, especially the female folks, bring growth to society and make the people better and respectable law-abiding citizens of the country. Furthermore, people, especially needy children and families will benefit from this project.
