Careers inspiration for the girl child. Helpers social development foundation team visited Igbariam Primary School on the 1st of March 2020. The aim of the school outreach is to give career inspiration for girl child and to encourage academic excellence in line with HSDF mission to promote quality education for all.
Mr. Chidi Okeke spoke about HSDF. He said that the organization is there to support the children to pursue academic excellence and to live their dreams in line with the sustainable development goals
Pharm. Chidera Aniakor addressed the pupils and shared her experiences growing up as a girl child.
“When I was in Primary school, my parents had financial challenges that made them to withdraw me from Private school to Public school. The decision of my Parents annoyed me because I believed that public schools pay little attention to the learning of pupils.
I thought then that my dream of becoming a Pharmacist is shattered. My mother encouraged me with word of advice that I can be whatever I dream to be, not minding the school I attended, that my destiny is in my hands, and am to bring out that which is in me for me to be happy.
I heed her words of encouragement and studied hard. During my graduating year in secondary school, I wrote a scholarship examination which was a success. This qualified me to be among those offered scholarship to study at the University of Nigeria from the first year to final year. Now my dream has come to past, I am a Pharmacist.
Today, Pharm. Chidera is at her alma mata, Igbariam Primary School to inspire the pupils at the school, especially the girl child to live up to their dreams. The programme which started at about 8:00 am had in attendance with Mr. Chidi Okeke , Chairman of HSDF, Mr. Alex Okwor and Pharm. Chidera Aniakor.
Igbariam Primary School Enugu is a public school being managed by a government ministry. In this school, pupils sit on the floor to learn due to lack of desk in some classroom, some pupils do not have reading and writing materials due to challenges in their families.
Helpers Social Development Foundation has a vision to see a society where children will have access to education. This made helpers foundation to share writing material to the pupils at Igbariam primary school to encourage learning. But due to the large population of pupils at Igbariam primary school, we could not reach to all the pupils. The writing material we gave to be shared covered about 10% of the pupils while 90% was unreached.
The contact person from the school Mrs. Angela took the visitors round the various section of the school. The different schools; school I, II and III all received gift items of writing materials to share to school pupils.
Igbariam Primary School Enugu is divided into three sections due to the large population of pupils. It comprises of school I, II and III. 2121 school pupils in attendance. Igbariam Primary School Enugu is a public school being managed by Enugu state ministry of Education.
The school head mistress appreciated the visitors from HSDF for coming. She said that we are welcome to visit anytime and that the school would need assistance in many other areas to make learning more conducive for the pupils. Mr. Okeke appreciated the school teachers present and promised that the organization will visit yet again.
